Perth's Pro-Am Circuit

Since my last update I have pretty much been based at home in Perth and have played some smaller, local tournaments with mixed results. I managed to win a couple of events, had a couple of runner ups and also threw in some forgettable rounds. Of course the added bonus of being able to sleep in my own bed after playing these events is one of the reasons I have cut back on my international playing schedule.

Later this month I will be heading north to Geraldton and the extremes of Australia’s northwest to play a series of pro-ams. From what I’ve heard one of the golf courses has sand greens – perhaps I’ll head to the beach to prepare for that one.

Great to see the Crusaders have a win in the Super 14’s.

Australian PGA Tour

Well after spending four and a half of the last five weeks on the road I am now back at home putting my feet up for a couple of weeks.

I had mixed success in the most recent tournaments. In Christchurch I exceeded my expectaions by nearly making the cut. In Melbourne the following week I played four rounds of the tournament but didn't really trouble the scorers on the weekend.

Next was a trip to India for the Johnnie Walker Classic. I had a practice round with my Florida neighbour Vijay Singh and I was happy with my form going int

o the event. My golf showed glimpses of improvement and we also got to see first hand just how cricket-mad the Inidans are – they play anywhere and everywhere.

It was great to see Kiwi Mark Brown take the title.

The Start of a New Year

A belated Happy New Year to everyone.

The last couple of months have been fairly relaxed in this part of the world. Too much wine and probably not enough golf.

I am now gearing up for the start of the Australasin Tour. I will be heading to Christchurch for the NZ PGA next week followed by an event in Melbourne and then off to India for the Johnnie Walker Classic.

My form of late has been a bit iffy but after a lesson today with former touring professional Kiwi Elliot Boult, I feel things are back on track. With any luck I can take what I have learnt from the practice range to the golf course.

Last Event On The 2007 Nationwide Tour

In Miami this week for the last tournament of the regular season on the Nationwide Tour. The top sixty on the money list after this week will play in the Tour Championship - which is scheduled to be played just outside of San Diego, California but may be moved due to the wildfires in the area.

So plenty of players are feeling higher than normal anxiety levels. It's always an interesting time of year watching players who are on the bubble for various exemptions for next year.

The course this week is one of the better ones we play during the year. Unfortunately it's not in the best conditon this year but still a good test of golf.

Sorry to see England lose the World Cup but South Africa were definitely the better team on the day. I'm sure we'll be hearing about it during Thursday and Friday's rounds as I'm paired with Tjaart van der Walt who is a mad keen Springboks supporter.
